ALBENDAZOLE AND PRAZIQUANTEL TABLETS

Composition:

Each uncoated tablet contains :
Albendazole |.P. 300 mg
Praziquantel |.P. 50 mg

Indications :

It is an orally administered broad—spectrum anthelmintic, for treatment of gastrointestinal infestations due to round worms, Iungworms, tape worms. Amphistomes and liverflukes in the specified treatment. Albendazole appears to
be active against the larval forms of the Echinococcus granulosus organism. Albendazole is a benzimidazole carbamate with anthelmintic and antiprotozoal activity against intestinal and tissue parasites. Albendazole exhibits wormicidal, ovicidal and larvicidal activity and exerts its anthelmintic effect by inhibiting tubulin polymerization. This causes the disruption of the helminth metabolism, including energy depletion, which immobilises and then kills the
susceptible helminth. Praziquantel is used to treat infections caused by worms in the Schistosoma family of worms. Praziquantel is well absorbed from the GI Tract Praziquantel increases the permeability of the membranes of parasite cells (certain schistosomes) for calcium ions. The drug thereby induces contracton of the parasites resulting in paralysis in the contracted state. The dying parasites are dislodged from their site of action in the host organism and may enter systemic circulation or may be destroyed by host immune reaction (phagocytosis).
